Why is Site So Texty?

Understanding why SystemsWay prioritizes deep understanding through text-based discourse, conjecture, and refutation over short, bite-sized content.

SystemsWay, or "the Ways of Systems," is primarily about seeking understanding and only secondarily about seeking solutions in form of intervention in systems with specific goals in mind. When someone is focused primarily on finding solutions, they often believe they already understand how systems work and why they function as they do. As a result, they look for short, summary, bullet-point answers, approving or disapproving them based on whether they fit their current understanding of the system. But transfer of understanding is transferring of one mental model to other in from of language model. So site is texty, because our general assumption that you are at SystemsWay because you are here to seek understanding first and then solution. If that's the case, you will have to deal with lot of language, which till we start doing video posts will be in text only. If you are here to seek solutions because you already believe you have understanding to understand those solution, you are at wrong place.

At SystemsWay, we question your very understanding of systems. We believe that much of this assumed understanding is flawed. Rebuilding that understanding requires a lot of words—it requires discourse, conjecture, and refutation. So yes, the content is "texty." That's because we believe there's no other way. If you know of one, we're open to learning from you. But be ready to engage in a deep discussion, and be open to the possibility that your belief in short, bite-sized, TikTok-style content as a way to develop deep understanding might be incorrect. Historically, all the great thinkers who helped develop our understanding were long-winded, text-heavy, and engaged in deep, long conversations. That said, this doesn't mean there's never a shorter or better way to develop understanding.

We could have answered this question in a short, simple way, but would that have helped you understand why we do what we do? While we're on the topic, let's explore the difference between understanding, knowledge, and information. Knowledge and information can be succinct—summaries or bullet points—because we consume them based on the understanding we already have. We are primarily concerned with fostering understanding, not just conveying knowledge or information. I can promise you that once we share the same understanding, discussions involving specific knowledge, information, or intervention recommendations will naturally become shorter.

Disagree? We love disagreement! Scroll down and express your thoughts, and feel free to write as much as you need, especially if it helps us understand where your disagreements come from.

Note: We do not have many videos yet. We are in production process and they would be also be long for the same reason that our texts are so long.
